Born August 12, 2009 at 4:09 pm. He was 4lbs 4ozs and 16 inches long!
The story begins Sunday....
I had some pain in my lower abdomen all day Sunday and decided if it didn't go away by Monday morning I'd call the doctors office. I was ready to go to Austin for training for work Monday morning. The plan was for me and my co-workers to drive to Austin around 10:30am. I was still feeling the pain that morning so I gave the doctor's office a call and the nurse said to come in just to check everything out. My doctor was doing surgeries that morning and couldn't see me until 1:30pm. So I let my boss know that I was going to stay behind to make the appointment. Thomas would go with me to the appointment and then drive me to Austin that night. So at lunch he packed his bag so he could stay the night in Austin with me. The doctor was running behind so I napped on the table while Thomas sat with me, haha. The nurse said she'd be an hour behind, "that's ok, we'll wait", then another "40 more minutes, you want to reschedule?", "no, we've already taken off the day, we'll wait." Around 4pm the doctor came in and said "so you're feeling contractions?" I didn't think that's what they were but I knew it wasn't normal. She checked me and I was at about 4.5/5cm. And immediately told us to head over to the Labor and Delivery. Much panic and worry set in at this point. We knew it couldn't be that good to start laboring this early, at 32 weeks. We headed on over and called family on the way to inform them and ask for prayers. I got in my hospital room, gowned up and hooked up. They started me on antibiotics in case there were any infections. And I hadn't had my staph. test done yet. I think that comes around 36 weeks. Sometimes pre-term labor is caused by an infection. Then gave me a steroid shot so that Sean's lungs could mature more. They started me on magnesium to relax my soft muscles, slow contractions, so that I could get another steroid shot in 24 hours. That all happened around 6pm. Skip ahead to the next day around 6pm, got that second steroid shot. By this time I think I was around 7cm. Skip ahead to Wednesday around 3pm, I was 8 cm and doc said let's get things going. The doctor broke my water and contractions got more intense. Immediately more intense. hand squeezing began, then nurse hollering. They wheeled me to the OR while Thomas quickly put his scrubs on. The doctor introduced me to the NICU team who were literally standing by. About 15-20 minutes of pushing....and at 4:09pm baby Sean was here. I only got through all that with Jesus! I was praising Him so much when Sean came! I was lying there saying out loud "thank you Jesus, praise you Jesus." Sean was passed to the NICU team and started working on him immediately, I was just laying there holding Thomas' hand, praying for our little guy. He even cried which was a big surprise since his lungs were so immature. Sean was in an incubator and they wheeled him next to me before they headed out. So up to the NICU Sean went and over to post partum I went. Visitors flowed in and we showed off pictures. Technology is amazing. I was released Friday night. We had soo, soo many people praying for us and Sean. God's peace and comfort and grace was definitely felt. We're so grateful for God's plan. We wouldn't want it any other way.
As of today Sean is still in NICU and doing pretty well. He's gone from having a CPAP breathing thing, tubes into his mouth to the back of his throat, to just a tube that sits under his nose. He also has a feeding tube that goes to his tummy and even gets my milk sometimes. Which is awesome!
Continued prayer is appreciated!! We have no word yet on when he'll be home and were fine with that. We want him strong and healthy!
